These arrests follow recent successes in the area and come as a positive response to the community’s call to rid the area of drugs that are destroying the lives of young people.
On Monday, 2 March 2026, the Welkom Anti-Gang Unit continued its ongoing operations targeting drug-related activities around Bethlehem and Bohlokong. The team received information from concerned community members about a male suspect allegedly selling drugs near an open field close to the mall.
Police approached the identified suspect, who matched the description provided. Upon searching him, officers found seven packets of crystal meth weighing approximately 1.7 grams, as well as cash believed to be proceeds of drug sales. The 19-year-old suspect was immediately arrested.
The team then proceeded to a house in Bohlokong, where they arrested an 18-year-old suspect found in possession of crystal meth weighing approximately 0.8 grams, mandrax tablets including a crushed tablet, and cash.
Both suspects are expected to appear before the Bethlehem Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 4 March 2026, facing charges of possession of drugs.
