The multi-disciplinary Frances Baard Illicit Mining Task Team apprehended two suspects for possession of drugs and armed robbery, respectively, at Dingaan Hostels in Galeshewe on Monday, 02 March 2026.
Members were conducting vehicle patrols and high-visibility patrols in the Kimberley and Galeshewe precincts, when the team received information regarding a wanted suspect reportedly hiding at the Dingaan Hostels.
Members acted swiftly, and the information was operationalised. The police tactically approached the identified premises where the suspect was last seen.
During the operation, the team observed a male throwing an object underneath a vehicle. Upon further investigation, a transparent plastic bag containing mandrax tablets was recovered.
An additional thorough search led to the discovery of another two transparent plastic bags containing suspected mandrax hidden inside the vehicle.
Police seized the drugs, with an estimated value of R24 000.00, as well as a white Toyota Tazz that was allegedly used during the commission of a crime.
The 46-year-old suspect was arrested for possession of drugs. A second suspect, a 44-year-old male wanted in connection with armed robbery, was also arrested.
