Earlier today (15 March 2026), the Durban Metropolitan Police Service Search and Rescue Unit was activated following reports of a body seen floating in Inanda Dam.
Members of Durban Metro Police Service Search and Rescue, working together with the South African Police Service Search and Rescue Unit, responded to a staging area near Mshazi Road in Mabedlane, Qiniselani Manyuswa. From there, the team proceeded on foot through dense vegetation for approximately 1 kilometre along the waterline to reach the reported location.
Upon arrival, members located a severely decomposed body floating in the water. Due to the advanced state of decomposition, the sex and race of the deceased could not immediately be determined. The body was recovered from the water and transported approximately 1 kilometre back to the staging area.
The remains were subsequently handed over to SAPS for further investigation. The matter is currently being handled by Hillcrest SAPS.
The Durban Metropolitan Police Service commends the coordinated efforts of all emergency personnel involved in the recovery operation. Further investigations will determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
