On Friday, 13 March 2026, police in KwaZulu-Natal arrested a 55-year-old suspect for being in possession of two unlicensed firearms, including a rifle, as well as ammunition.
Police in Vryheid conducted an intelligence-driven operation at Bhekuzulu township, after receiving information about an individual who was alleged to be in posession of two unlicensed firearms. During the operation police recovered an assault rifle with twenty-nine (29) rounds of ammunition, as well as a 9mm pistol with fifteen (15) rounds of ammunition.
The suspect failed to produce any documentation permitting him to be in possession of the firearms. He was subsequently arrested and charged for unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.
Police also seized the suspects’s vehicle for further investigation as it had a license disc which expired in 2020, and it was being driven without number plates, both in front and at the back.
The suspect will appear on Monday, 16 March 2026 at the Vryheid Magistrate’s Court facing charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
