The Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) Drug Unit members arrested three African males in Mabopane for possession of and dealing in heroin, commonly known as nyaope, during a routine patrol along Molefe Makinta Road on Monday, 28 September 2026.
The TMPD Drug Unit members observed suspicious drug-related activity involving a vehicle with two occupants in the area. When they attempted to stop the vehicle, it sped off, prompting a chase. The vehicle was eventually stopped, and a search revealed that both occupants were in possession of drugs.
Further investigation led the members to a residential property in Mabopane, where a third suspect, believed to be an alleged supplier, was found with additional quantities of heroin. The suspects were arrested and are currently detained at the local police station pending court appearance.
TMPD Chief of Police, Commissioner YCR Faro, commended the members involved for their dedication and hard work in combating drug-related crimes. She also urged community members to come forward with any information that could assist the police in ongoing efforts to eradicate drugs in Tshwane.
