Harrismith police have arrested four suspects following an incident in which three off-duty police officers were allegedly attacked by a group of five people, while they were seated in their private vehicles outside a tavern in Harrismith.
The three police officers sustained injuries during the incident and were subsequently admitted to local hospitals for medical treatment.
It is alleged that the three officers were off duty and each seated in his private vehicle outside a tavern during the early hours of Sunday, 27 September 2026. One of the officers suddenly noticed a group of people attacking two of his colleagues. He immediately got out of his vehicle to intervene, but was also assaulted and injured in the process.
The five suspects allegedly fled the scene in an unknown vehicle at approximately 02:00.
Cases of attempted murder are being investigated.
Following a swift response and preliminary investigation, police managed to arrest four of the five suspects, aged between 21 and 25. The fifth suspect remains at large.
The four arrested suspects are expected to appear before the Harrismith Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 29 September 2026.
Police investigations are continuing.
