Firearm and drug arrests made in Grassy Park and Manenberg

Efforts to rid communities in the Western Cape of firearms led to the arrest of suspects in Grassy Park and Manenberg respectively on Friday, 19 June 2026.

On Friday, 19 June 2026, at about 15:47, members attached to #AntiGangUnit were performing crime prevention duties and followed up on information regarding ongoing gang shootings in the Grassy Park area.

The members received information about a premises in Peter Court, Ottery, where firearms were allegedly being kept. During the search, a 9mm pistol without a serial number and an extended magazine with 21 rounds of ammunition were found inside a cupboard in the suspect’s room. The 25-year-old suspect was arrested for possession of a prohibited firearm and illegal possession of ammunition. She is detained at Grassy Park SAPS and is due to appear in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 22 June 2026, on the mentioned charges.

At about 17:00, the members were performing crime prevention duties and followed up on information regarding drugs that were being stored at a premises in Edward Informal Settlement, Ottery. Upon searching the premises, 50 sachets of tik were found abandoned. No arrests were made. The abandoned drugs were handed in as exhibits and an enquiry was registered for investigation.

During an intelligence-driven operation conducted by Anti-Gang Unit members on Friday, 19 June 2026, a premises in Manenberg Avenue, Manenberg, was approached and searched. The members went into the bathroom and discovered one .38 revolver without a serial number and four .38 rounds of ammunition hidden under the bath. A 35-year-old suspect was arrested on charges of possession of a prohibited firearm and illegal possession of ammunition. The suspect was detained at Manenberg SAPS and will appear in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court once charged.

Also on Friday, 19 June 2026, an intelligence-driven operation by the members in conjunction with the #SANDF and Metro Police deployed in the Chatsworth area, Malmesbury, led to the discovery of an abandoned firearm. The members followed up on information received regarding a firearm that was buried at a premises in Edward Street, Chatsworth. The members immediately operationalised the information and found a double-barrel shotgun without a serial number. It was confiscated and booked in as an exhibit. No arrests were made. An enquiry docket was opened at Malmesbury SAPS for further investigation.

The recovered firearms will undergo ballistic testing to determine whether they have been used in the commission of any other crimes. The operations are set to continue in an effort to recover illegal firearms and drugs that are generators of serious violent crimes.
