Qumbu police continued with their efforts to fight stock theft, as they arrested a 27-year-old male suspect at Mjikweni locality, Ngcolokini A/A, on Thursday, 16 April 2026 at about 15:00, for possession of fifteen suspected stolen cattle.
Police received information about a man looking after cattle in Mjikweni locality grazing field that were allegedly stolen in Sulenkama.
Police tactically approached the man and recovered fifteen mixed cattle to an estimated value of R180 000-00.
The 27-year-old male suspect was arrested, and is due to appear before Qumbu Magistrates Court on Friday, 17 April 2026 for contravening the stock theft Act 57 of 1959. The investigation into the matter is still ongoing, and the police are yet to locate the owner of the livestock.
“Police will continue to use every available resource in the OR Tambo District to combat stock theft. Stock theft is leaving families, especially small-scale farmers deeply impoverished. Farmers must know that it is critical, and are mandated in terms of the law to brand their livestock at six months”, said OR Tambo District Commissioner, Major General Norman Modishana. #StockTheft
