The Welkom Anti-Gang Unit continues to unsettle drug peddlers in Bohlokong and Bethlehem following the arrest of two males and one female found in possession of crystal meth and mandrax tablets, which appear to be sold openly on the streets. More than ten suspects have been arrested within a week for dealing in drugs in Bohlokong alone.
On Saturday, 7 March 2026, members of the Welkom Anti-Gang Unit were patrolling near Sechaba Mall when they noticed a group of suspicious males sitting next to the taxi rank near the R26 road. The members tactically approached the group on foot. Upon noticing the police, the suspects fled in different directions.
The members pursued one suspect who was carrying a blue bag. He was apprehended and searched, and drugs were found inside the bag. The 20-year-old suspect was found in possession of 100 full mandrax tablets, 100 small sachets of crystal meth weighing 56.6 grams, nine sachets of 5 grams crystal meth, 72 packets of nyaope weighing 26.4 grams, and an undisclosed amount of cash.
The team further revisited one of the troublesome houses in Bohlokong where they found a group of males and females allegedly smoking drugs. A 28-year-old woman, who was arrested last week for possession of drugs, was arrested again. During the arrest, she bit a police officer on the arm and became aggressive, further damaging a police vehicle window by head-butting it. She was found in possession of six packets of crystal meth weighing 1.9 grams. Additional charges of assault on a police officer and malicious damage to property will be added.
Meanwhile, the team received information about a man riding a bicycle and allegedly selling drugs near the sewerage area in the Egypt section of Bohlokong. The 24-year-old suspect was located, searched and found in possession of 95 full mandrax tablets, 46 packets of nyaope weighing 16.8 grams, and 42 packets of crystal meth weighing 13.1 grams.
Police also followed up on community information regarding houses suspected of selling drugs in the Ithoballe Section of Bohlokong. At a house in Naledi Extension 1, the lawful owner cooperated with police during the search. Drugs were found hidden on top of the roof outside one of the rooms, while more drugs were discovered inside the room of his son who refused to come home when requested. An inquiry docket has been registered.
The drugs seized included 49 packets of crystal meth weighing 15.4 grams, 31 full mandrax tablets, 42 quarter mandrax tablets, 16 half mandrax tablets and an undisclosed amount of cash.
All three suspects have been charged and are expected to appear before the Bethlehem Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 9 March 2026, facing charges of possession of drugs.
