The Free State Provincial Anti-Gang Unit in Bloemfontein continues to make significant strides in removing illegal weapons and drugs from the streets. On Saturday, 07 March 2026, a targeted operation led to the arrest of three suspects and the seizure of an unlicensed firearm and a substantial quantity of narcotics.
Between 12:00 and 13:00, members of the Anti-Gang Unit were conducting routine duties in the Bloemspruit area when they received intelligence-led information regarding an unlicensed firearm.
They swiftly reacted, and upon arrival at the identified address, officers encountered a 21-year-old female. A thorough search of the premises led to the discovery of an unlicensed firearm hidden externally between a shack and bricks.
During the same intervention, officers entered the main residence and apprehended a 32-year-old suspect.
The individual was found in the process of packaging dagga with an estimated street value of R55,000.
Following up on further intelligence, the team proceeded to a second location where they successfully traced and arrested a 32-year-old male. The suspect was wanted in connection with a pending case of attempted murder.
The three suspects remain in police custody and are expected to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court soon. They face charges such as possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, dealing in drugs and attempted murder (in relation to the wanted suspect).
”The swift response and coordination of our members ensure that those who harbor illegal weapons and profit from the drug trade are brought to justice. We will continue to act decisively on information provided by our communities.”
