Safer festive season operations in the Western Cape yielded success as committed police members arrest suspects for the illegal possession of a firearm, ammunition and drugs .
On Friday night, 19 December 2025, members of Lentegeur Crime Prevention Unit were conducting crime prevention duties in Woodlands when they saw an unknown man running when he saw the police vehicle. The members chased the suspect on foot and apprehended him in Faraday Court. They ensued with a search of the suspect and found a 9mm pistol with 17 rounds of ammunition in his possession. He was arrested for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
In Diepriver, members of the Mitchell’s Plain Crime Combatting Unit, followed up information of a person who is distributing drugs in Main Road. The members stopped and searched the identified vehicle and found 21 000 mandrax tablets in the vehicle. They arrested an adult male for dealing in drugs.
In an unrelated matter, members of Operation Lockdown III, searched a premises in Discovery Street, Garden Village, Maitland, where they seized 2,370 gram crystal meth, four small plastic packets containing cocaine, mandrax and dagga. They arrested an adult male for dealing in drugs.
The suspects will make their respective court appearances in Mitchell’s Plain, Wynberg and Cape Town Magistrates’ courts on Monday.
