Shanela II operations conducted on every street corner and along all routes in the Chris Hani District

During the weekend of 24 to 26 April 2026, Shanela II operations were conducted on every street corner and along all routes in the Chris Hani District. The operations yielded positive results.

The operational concept focused on ensuring high visibility herding ahead of the long weekend, searching for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, tracing wanted suspects, and visiting and closing shebeens and taverns operating without a licence, among other objectives. Adherence to the Road Traffic Act was also a priority, with Traffic Officers forming part of the operations.

Approximately 1,374 people were searched, 10 suspicious premises were visited, and 1,041 vehicles were stopped and searched. Two arrests for illegal possession of ammunition and nine for drunken driving were effected in Cacadu, and a further five for drunken driving in Nxuba.

A 25-year-old murder suspect, who had been sought for a long time, was also arrested on the R410 in Cacadu.

With the district police hell-bent on creating a drug-free community, two arrests for drug possession were effected in Ezbeleni, and three drug posts were searched. Two arrests for possession of tik were effected in Nxuba.

Fines totalling R67 000-00 were issued to motorists for various traffic offences, of which R37 000-00 came from fines issued in Nxuba on the R61-2 alone. A total of 16 taverns were closed over the weekend, with 13 of them falling under the Ntabethemba policing precinct.

The District Commissioner, Major General Rudolph Adolph, is giving a thumbs-up for the tremendous successes achieved by his members over the weekend.
