Police in KwaZulu-Natal are in the process of registering a case against a foreign national who assaulted a police officer with a stone during a confrontation between people who were marching and foreign nationals who have been camping outside the Home Affairs office on Che Guevara Road at Umbilo in Durban.
On Thursday afternoon, 3 September 2026, approximately 100 marchers went on what they termed a clean-up campaign, in which they allegedly picked up essential belongings of the foreign nationals, and a physical confrontation erupted. Police had sufficient deployment and intervened to restore order. During the commotion, stones were thrown around, and one, which was thrown by a foreign national, landed on a police officer.
Police had to use minimum crowd management proportional force to manage the situation, and calm has been restored. Investigations are ongoing, and should anyone be found to have incited violence, they will face the might of the law.
The arrested suspect will appear in court after all processes have been completed.
