Three suspects were arrested and a stolen vehicle recovered in Allandale earlier today after it was detected by the Mi7 Surveillance Net.
Shortly before midday, Mi7 Control Room operators received an alert from the system indicating that a vehicle reported stolen in Richards Bay was travelling through the Brixham Road area.
The Mi7 Surveillance Net is a network of strategically positioned surveillance cameras equipped with Automatic Number Plate Recognition technology, covering more than 150 locations in Pietermaritzburg and the Midlands.
Mi7 Reaction Officers and members of the Strategic Threat Response Unit (STRU) were immediately dispatched to search for the vehicle. Within minutes, the vehicle was located parked at a property in Allandale Drive and intercepted by Mi7 teams.
Three men found inside the vehicle were apprehended and detained at the scene.
Further investigation established that the vehicle’s disc had allegedly been tampered with. Approximately R14,000 in cash and suspected narcotics of an undisclosed value were also recovered during a search of the vehicle.
The suspects had also allegedly fitted wheel caps from a different vehicle manufacturer in an apparent attempt to alter the vehicle’s appearance and avoid detection.
The three suspects, stolen vehicle, cash and suspected narcotics were handed over to the police for further investigation.
