Four males aged between 25 and 38 have been arrested after they were found in possession of copper cable in Odendaalsrus by the Operation Ukubuza team.
On Monday, 20 July 2026, the Dimension Infrastructure Crimes Team, Odendaalsrus police, Wolmaransstad police and Transnet Senqobile Security operationalised information received about Transnet copper cable that was allegedly stolen in Wolmaransstad. The information led them to a scrap metal dealer in Kutlwanong.
The copper cable, estimated to be valued at one hundred and fifty thousand rands (R150 000) and weighing 766 kilograms, was positively identified and seized.
Four male suspects aged between 25 and 38 were subsequently arrested for tampering with, damaging and/or destroying essential infrastructure and possession of suspected stolen property. The 38-year-old was further charged with contravening the Immigration Act. They are expected to appear before the Odendaalsrus Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 22 July 2026.
