Members of #OperationLockdown3 were conducting intelligence-driven operations on Wednesday, 20 May 2026, at approximately 22:45, when they arrested a 39-year-old male suspect.
Police reports state that the members followed up on information received about a firearm at an informal dwelling in Siqalo Informal Settlement, Philippi. Upon arrival at the identified address, the members searched the premises, resulting in the discovery of a .38 Special revolver without a serial number and seven rounds of ammunition, which were found under the suspect’s mattress.
He was arrested for possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition and is due to appear at the Athlone Magistrate’s Court once charged.
Meanwhile, in Khayelitsha at around 00:00 on Thursday, 21 May 2026, Operation Lockdown III members found a 48-year-old female suspect in possession of 18 rounds of ammunition in Guquka Street, Town Two.
She was arrested for the illegal possession of ammunition and will appear at the Khayelitsha Magistrate’s Court once charged.
