The Operation Ukubuza attached to Operation Lockdown III were conducting intelligence-driven operations which resulted in the arrests of two suspects between Thursday, 9 April and the early hours of Friday, 10 Apil 2026.
At around 23:30 on Thursday, 9 April 2026 the members followed up on information about an unlicensed firearm at a premises in Hanover Park Avenue, Hanover Park. Upon their arrival, the suspect’s room was searched and a silver 9mm pistol was found. A 49-year-old male suspect was arrested for the possession of an unlicensed firearm, and he will appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court once he has been charged.
In a separate incident, a 35-year-old male suspect was arrested for failure to comply with the Firearms Control Act, possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition in Ncwadi Crescent, Makhaza, at approximately 00:15 on Friday, 10 April 2026, when they searched him and found the firearm with ammunition in his possession.
Once charged, he will appear at Khayelitsha Magistrate’s Court.
