Five suspects have been arrested and charged in connection with a business burglary in Ficksburg following a joint response by police, private security, and community patrollers.
According to police, the incident took place on Tuesday, 21 April 2026, at about 23:00, when officers on patrol received information from a businessman that intruders were inside his shop after an alarm was triggered.
The complainant reportedly monitored the incident through CCTV cameras linked to his cellphone and alerted authorities.
Police, together with private security personnel and community in blue patrollers, responded to the scene.
Upon arrival, they allegedly found suspects attempting to flee through a window. All five suspects were apprehended.
Investigators found that entry had allegedly been gained by cutting through the ceiling and breaking a window.
Items recovered in the suspects’ possession included laptops, computer disks, 46 cartons of cigarettes, and two toy guns believed to be linked to the burglary.
The suspects, aged between 33 and 63, include one foreign national and four South African citizens. The South African suspects are reportedly from Ficksburg, Sasolburg, and Welkom.
They are expected to appear before the Ficksburg Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 23 April 2026, facing charges of business burglary and possession of suspected stolen property.
