An Uber driver has been arrested by members of KZN VIP following intelligence received regarding the theft of an iPad and other electronic devices in the Umhlanga area on Tuesday morning.
KZN VIP received credible information and immediately acted on it. Investigations led officers to an Uber vehicle, where it was believed the driver had stolen electronic devices from a passenger.
The driver was contacted but failed to comply with instructions and could not be reached thereafter. Through continued intelligence gathering, KZN VIP officers successfully traced and located the suspect in the Umhlanga CBD, where he was swiftly apprehended.
Although the suspect initially denied being in possession of the stolen items, further investigation revealed that the devices had been sold to a local cellphone shop along Zenith Drive in Umhlanga.
KZN VIP, working together with SAPS, proceeded to the identified location where the stolen electronic devices were successfully recovered. The owner of the shop was also placed under arrest for being in possession of suspected stolen property.
All suspects have been handed over to SAPS for further investigation.
