Police in KwaZulu-Natal have arrested two suspects, aged 26 and 39, for being in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. The arrests were the result of intelligence-driven operations conducted by the Provincial Tracing Team at Matimatolo and Mountain Rise policing precincts between 10 and 11 March 2026.
Members of the Provincial Tracing Team received information about a suspect allegedly in possession of an unlicensed firearm in the Matimatolo area. Police acted on the information and approached the suspect’s homestead. During a search, the suspect was found with an unlicensed 9mm pistol and thirteen (13) rounds of ammunition. He was arrested and subsequently charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
In a separate operation, the team proceeded to a house in Mountain Rise following information about another suspect allegedly in possession of an unlicensed firearm. Police located the suspect, conducted a search, and recovered a 9mm pistol. The suspect could not produce a licence for the firearm and was duly arrested.
The arrested suspects are scheduled to appear at the Greytown and Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Courts on Wednesday, 11 March 2026.
