A female commuter reported a hijacking in progress while travelling in a mini bus taxi in Osindisweni – KZN this afternoon (Tuesday).
A man arrived at Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Headquarters requesting assistance. He informed the Controller On Duty that he received a call from an employee who was speaking in a low tone and appeared to be under duress. A WhatsApp location was thereafter received placing her in Osindisweni – KZN. Her employer confirmed that she was not expected to be in the area.
Reaction Officers thereafter proceeded with her employer to the location and located the female. She explained that she had boarded a white Toyota Quantum mini bus taxi with registration DF 15 XV ZN in the Verulam CBD – KZN with the intention of travelling to Trenance Park – KZN.
While en route, armed men posing as passengers allegedly produced firearms and began robbing the occupants of the vehicle. The female managed to conceal her cellphone while discreetly seeking assistance.
The suspects then allegedly rerouted the taxi to Osindisweni – KZN, dropping off passengers along the route after robbing them of their valuables. The female was thereafter dropped off while the driver remained in the vehicle.
Reaction Officers are currently (21:12) searching for the vehicle and driver.
