Swift response by police and the community to a business robbery yielded positive outcomes, with the confiscation of an unlicensed firearm, recovery of stolen goods, and the arrest of three men in connection with a business robbery at Pacaltsdorp in George.
On Wednesday, 04 February 2026 at about 16:30, Pacaltsdorp police, Outeniqua K9, and the Garden Route District Crime Combatting Team responded to a robbery at a spaza shop situated in Japonica Street, New Dawn Park in Pacaltsdorp. On arrival, the members found a group from the community who had pursued the suspects. The group cornered a man who was subsequently arrested by the police.
A search for the other suspects took police to the bushes at Zone 06 in Thembalethu, where two men were tracked down. Upon searching the pair, police found a 9mm pistol, cell phones, cigarettes, and cash. Some of the items are believed to have been stolen during the robbery.
Further reports suggest that a bystander sustained a gunshot wound to the leg during the altercation with the alleged robbers. He was taken to hospital for medical care.
Three suspects are in custody and are facing charges of attempted murder, robbery, as well as a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm. They will appear in court once charged.
