A man was left seriously injured following a violent assault and robbery in Mount Moriah, KwaZulu-Natal, during the early hours of the morning (Sunday).
Members of Reaction Unit South Africa were dispatched to the scene at approximately 03:15 after reports of an injured person lying in the roadway was received.
On arrival, Reaction Officers discovered a male lying in the middle of the road, unconscious but still breathing.
The victim was found partially undressed, naked from below the waist, and had sustained serious head injuries. According to witnesses he was struck multiple times with a large piece of concrete (picture 1).
The injured man was accompanied by two (2) females, aged 19 and 18, both residents of Richards Bay – KZN.
All three (3) individuals were reportedly under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident. Due to his condition, the victim was unable to provide any information. His white Datsun Go was parked on the road.
The victim was allegedly robbed of three (3) cellular phones and an undisclosed amount of cash. The females were unable to confirm the exact amount of money taken.
It was further reported that a brown Renault Kwid, allegedly occupied by five (5) unknown males, may have been involved in the incident.
No vehicle registration number was obtained.
