WESTERN CAPE – Continued efforts to fight gang violence in the Steenberg policing precinct yielded success on Thursday, 1 January 2026, when members arrested two suspects following a high-speed chase.
Members of the Steenberg Crime Prevention Unit followed up information about a suspicious looking Toyota Etios in Tango Crescent, Steenberg, and followed up on it. The vehicle was spotted and the members tried to stop the vehicle but the driver sped off. A high speed chase ensued and one of the occupants of the vehicle fired shots at the police members who were in pursuit. The Toyota Etios came to a standstill in Joe Marks Boulevard after the driver lost control over the vehicle. The suspects aged 34 and 43 were apprehended and upon searching the vehicle a 9mm pistol with 13 rounds of ammunition was found in the vehicle. The suspects face charges for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition, attempted murder and reckless and negligent driving.
They will appear in the Wynberg Magistrates’ court on Monday, 5 January 2026, on the mentioned charges.
