On Sunday morning, just after 08:00, the CERT-SA Centurion crew received a call to assist with the rescue of a macaw that was stuck in a tree. Several attempts were made to reach the bird, including the use of high-flow water to restrict its flight, as the trees were too tall to access with ladders or other equipment.
Ruby, the 14-week-old macaw, remained vocal and appeared to mock the team from her perch.
Ruby’s owners are continuing to monitor her and are waiting to see if she descends to a position that can be safely reached.
Update: Ruby the ‘Mocking Macaw’ has been rescued and is safe at home.
