A suspect was apprehended after allegedly jumping into a property on Whetdene Place, Newlands West, claiming he was fleeing from would be robbers, in the early hours of the morning, 12 October 2025.
KZNVIP Control Centre received a panic activation from a community member who reported hearing someone screaming for help outside the a property in Whetdene, just after 01h55 AM. KZNVIP Response Officers were immediately dispatched to investigate.
Upon arrival, KZNVIP officers were informed by community members that they had seen a man enter a premises in Whetdene Place. The suspect was quickly apprehended inside the property. When questioned, the suspect claimed that a VW Polo had been following him and that he jumped into the yard for safety.
However, during a search, KZNVIP Officers found a female’s Capitec Bank card in his possession, for which he could not provide an explanation. A check of the property confirmed that nothing had been damaged or stolen.
The matter was handed over to SAPS Phoenix for further investigation. KZN VIP Response Officers remained on scene to ensure the safety of the residents and assist police with further investigation.
