TomTom to Provide Flemish Government’s Traffic Centre with historical traffic Data

BRUSSELS, Jul 20, 2011 (BUSINESS WIRE) — TomTom today announces that it has signed an agreement to provide the Flemish Government’s traffic centre with historical traffic data. By providing measured speeds for the complete major road network of Flanders, TomTom’s historical trip database, with its 4 trillion anonymous data points, is a unique source of information for the Flemish Government in planning new road infrastructure. It will be used to validate the government’s strategic traffic model with measurements from actual driven trips.

Hajo Beeckman, Manager Operations, at the Flemish Traffic Centre (Vlaams Verkeerscentrum): “We have matched TomTom’s traffic data with our loop systems. The countrywide coverage of this data and detailed accuracy makes this source a cost effective solution that can be used by governments to save valuable resources and more efficiently manage road networks.”

“We are pleased to be able to assist the Flemish Government to help them improve the flow of the traffic on their road. Our highly accurate and granular traffic data will provide insights for the Flemish government to significantly better analyse road conditions and traffic performance. This important customer win underlines the benefits that TomTom can bring to governments in tackling the issues of road network performance and congestion”, says Maarten van Gool, Managing Director at TomTom Licensing.
