Ten alleged illegal immigrants were arrested for possession of precious metal, firearms, and ammunition on 07 June 2026, in Khutsong and Carletonville, following an intelligence-driven operation.
The team, consisting of Gauteng Crime Intelligence, the West Rand District Task Team, the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI), and the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department, operationalised intelligence information which led them to an address in Khutsong, where they arrested three men suspected to be illegal immigrants. One of them was found in possession of an unlicensed 9mm firearm with ammunition.
The suspects led the team to another address in Carletonville, believed to be that of the kingpin. Upon arrival at the second address, they found seven men, including the alleged kingpin, who was also found in possession of an unlicensed firearm with ammunition and precious metal.
All ten arrested suspects will be charged with illegal immigration and will be verified by the Department of Home Affairs, while the other two will face additional charges of possession of a firearm and possession of precious metal. They are expected to appear before court on 09 June 2026.
The suspects will further be profiled, and the firearms will be taken for ballistic testing for possible case linkages.
