The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Intervention Unit Officers, arrested a twenty-eight (28) year old male suspect and recovered a reported stolen vehicle in the Kempton Park area.
While patrolling the area, Officers noticed a suspicious grey Mercedes-Benz V-Class with one male occupant on Pretoria Road. The vehicle was not displaying a registration number plate or license disc, however a temporary permit was displayed on the rear window of the vehicle.
Officers stopped the vehicle to conduct a routine inspection. Further discrepancies revealed that the temporary permit displayed on the vehicle was fraudulent. A vehicle enquiry was then conducted using the vehicle identification number (VIN), which confirmed that the vehicle had been reported stolen in 2024 with Lyttelton case number.
The suspect was subsequently arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle and detained at Kempton Park Police Station. He is expected to appear before the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court soon.
