Eight suspects, including two members of SAPS, were arrested shortly after allegedly committing a business robbery in a intelligence-driven operation involving multiple law enforcement agencies.
The operation involved SAPS Counter Intelligence Investigation Head Office, SAPS Gauteng TRT, SAPS Airwing (Johannesburg), Gauteng Traffic Police Airwing, CAP Specialised Operations and Tracker Connect.
Information was received regarding suspects involved in a business robbery at a storage unit in Bedfordview, where stock was stolen. It is alleged that the suspects used three vehicles in the commission of the crime, a VW Polo GTI, VW Polo Vivo and a Toyota Dyna truck.
Acting on intelligence, operational teams traced the suspects to the Honeydew area on the West Rand, where the three vehicles were spotted travelling in close formation, with two vehicles escorting the truck carrying the stolen goods.
A tactical operational plan was executed to intercept the suspects. Members stopped the VW Polo Vivo and the truck, and despite attempts by suspects to flee, they were contained and arrested.
The VW Polo GTI sped off, leading officers on a high-speed pursuit which ended a few kilometres away, where the remaining suspects were also apprehended.
All eight suspects were arrested and the stolen stock was recovered from the truck. The recovered goods were positively confirmed as property linked to the Bedfordview case.
Investigations are continuing, including efforts to link the suspects to other crimes.
