Suspects found in possession of two bags containing SB copper cables and solid copper bars

On 24 April 2026, the TMPD Cable Theft Unit conducted an operation to monitor the city’s infrastructure and combat the scourge of cable theft.

While patrolling the Pretoria North area, officers spotted a white Isuzu bakkie on the R101 Road and initiated a stop-and-search. The two male occupants (a South African and a Zimbabwean) were found in possession of two bags containing SB copper cables and solid copper bars.

The suspects were immediately arrested and charged with possession of suspected stolen copper cables (SB) and busbars (solid), tampering with or damaging essential infrastructure, and transporting suspected stolen copper.

Both suspects were detained at a local police station. Great applause to the Cable Theft Unit team for serving the City of Tshwane, this is greatly appreciated by TMPD management.
