Suspects arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition at Zinduneni

An intelligence-driven operation conducted by the Mthatha K9 Unit at Zinduneni A/A in the Eastern Cape, from Wednesday, 18 February 2026 at 23:00 until Thursday, 19 February 2026 at 10:00, led to the arrest of two male suspects, aged 33 and 45, for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

Members acted on reliable information and proceeded to the Guqa locality in Zinduneni A/A, where a 33-year-old suspect was found in possession of an unlicensed 9mm Norinco pistol with an erased serial number. No ammunition was found in his possession at the time. He was arrested at his homestead.

The operation continued to the Magozini locality in Zinduneni A/A, where a 45-year-old suspect was found in possession of a shotgun with an erased serial number, along with shotgun shells. He was also arrested on the scene.

Police further searched for a third man of interest; however, he was not found at his residence. During the search, members discovered loose dagga. Investigations are continuing.

The two suspects are expected to appear before the Ngqeleni Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 20 February 2026, on charges of unlawful possession of an unlicensed firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition, respectively.
