A 44-year-old woman is in a critical condition after being repeatedly stabbed by a work colleague at a residence on Esselen Crescent, Lenham, Unit 13, Phoenix – KwaZulu-Natal today (Wednesday).
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received a distress call from a hysterical female reporting that a stabbing was in progress. Reaction Officers were immediately dispatched and arrived at the scene minutes later.
On arrival, Officers found a large group of residents gathered outside the property. Entry into the yard was initially restricted due to two (2) vicious Boerboels. The dogs’ owner was requested to restrain them, after which Officers entered the property and located the injured woman lying in the backyard, bleeding profusely.
The suspect was found seated on a boundary wall and was still in possession of the knife used in the attack. He was instructed to surrender the weapon and was subsequently restrained by First Responders.
RUSA Paramedics arrived on scene and stabilised the woman, who had sustained approximately twenty (20) stab wounds to her back, hands and chest. She was then transported by ambulance to hospital for further medical treatment.
During interviews, the suspect stated that he is employed as a Gardener at the property, while the victim is employed as a Domestic Worker. He alleged that after requesting a glass of water, he noticed what he believed to be residue in the water and suspected that the woman intended to poison him. He then left the property, returned with a pocket knife (picture 6), and stabbed the woman.
The attack was witnessed by the employer and neighbours, called for assistance. The family’s Boerboels, which were familiar with the suspect (picture 4), did not attack him. Both the suspect and the victim have been employed at the property for approximately eight (😎 months.
Both individuals are South African nationals.
