A 62-year-old man was arrested by Ntabethemba Police on 9 December 2025 during a #SaferFestiveSeason operation after he was allegedly found in possession of drugs and illicit cigarettes.
Police received information about a taxi travelling from Komani to Ntabethemba, suspected to be transporting an elderly man carrying drugs. Police were given a description of the suspect. The taxi was later spotted and stopped, and all passengers were searched. Police identified the man of interest and searched him.
During the search, officers allegedly found the following items in his possession: 20 boss mandrax tablets, two small bags of tik, and five cartons (5 x 10) of Sevilles illicit cigarettes. The total value of the seized items is R5 950-00.
The suspect was arrested on the scene and he appeared in the Ntabethemba Magistrate’s Court Wednesday, 10 December 2025.
The District Commissioner applauded the members for their commitment to combating and preventing crime, adding that such arrests bring hope for a safer festive season.
