Five suspects face charges for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition

The vigilance by members of the Villiersdorp Crime Prevention Unit landed four adult males and a female behind bars, for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition on Friday afternoon.

The members were conducting crime prevention duties when they noticed a vehicle travelling at a high speed. They chased after the vehicle and stopped it on the R321 Road. They searched the occupants and the vehicle and found a 9mm pistol, with 23 rounds of ammunition in the boot.

They will appear in the Caledon Magistrates’ court on Monday,

In an unrelated matter, members of the Anti-Gang Unit arrested a 21-year-old male when they searched a premises in Mountain Road, Overcome Heights, on Friday evening. The members found a 9mm pistol with ammunition hidden in a bag in the informal dwelling. The suspect faces charges for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

He will appear in the Muizenberg Magistrates’ court on Monday, on the mentioned charges.
