Two suspects arrested for illegal possession of firearms in Willowvale

WILLOWVALE – Police efforts to remove unlicensed firearms from communities paid off on Wednesday, 03 September 2025 when Public Order Policing (POP) members from Mthatha arrested two suspects in separate incidents at Bonde Location, Willowvale.

In the first incident, members acted on information about an alleged firearm at a residence in Bonde Location. Upon arrival, police found a 28-year-old male in possession of a 9mm pistol with its serial number filed off, a magazine with live rounds of ammunition. The suspect failed to provide valid documentation for the firearm and was immediately arrested.

In a second, unrelated incident on the same day, police followed up on further intelligence at another address in the same location. On investigation, they arrested 27-year-old male who was found in possession of a .303 rifle, also with a filed-off serial number, and live round of ammunition. The suspect was unable to produce a firearm licence and was taken into custody.

Both suspects were immediately arrested are due to appear at Willowvalle Magistrate court soon on charges relating to the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
