Part of a home was extensively damaged after it caught alight in Emona – KZN yesterday afternoon (Monday).
The Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Tongaat Operations Centre received a call of a house fire at approximately 23:36. Reaction Officers were immediately dispatched and on arrival found that the fire was extinguished by residents. The damage was contained to a bedroom.
The homeowner informed Reaction Officers that she woke up to smoke in her bedroom. She fled the home and called out to neighbours for assistance. Residents extinguished the fire with buckets of water.
A lit candle is suspected to be the cause.
