Three suspects, aged between 32 and 37, were arrested in connection with a case of attempted murder whereby a man was shot and injured in Belfast this afternoon, Wednesday 23 July 2025 around 14h15. During their arrest, a firearm with ammunition, as well as a suspected stolen vehicle (VW Polo) was recovered.
According to a report, a man was inside his vehicle at the Traffic Office in Belfast when he was shot multiple times. It is further said that the victim managed to shoot back and the suspects retrieved then fled in two VW Polo’s.
The male victim who sustained some injuries, was taken to hospital by a good Samaritan, for medical treatment.
The matter was brought to the attention of the Police and a case was opened whereby suspects were sought. About an hour later, members of the SAPS from Laersdrift managed to corner the three suspects, driving in two VW Polo’s
One of the suspects had sustained gunshot wound, suggesting that he could have been shot earlier during the attack in Belfast. A firearm with ammunition has been confiscated and it will undergo ballistic testing as part of the investigation. The injured suspect is receiving medical treatment under Police guard.
The two vehicles were also seized for further investigation and one of the VW Polo’s appears to have been stolen and further details to that regard will be communicated in due course
The suspects are expected to appear in court soon.
Meanwhile the Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi has lauded the members for their swift response, thereby arresting the alleged perpetrators. “We are delighted by the arrest of the three suspects and recovery of the firearm with ammunition. The action by the members is an indication of our sheer determination to deal decisively with crime,” said the General.
