On Monday 07 July 2025 at 11:00 , the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Northern Region Task Team Officers, in conjunction with Brand and Intellectual Property Protection Service (BIPPS) arrested five(5) suspects in the Edenvale area.
Officers received information about two (2) shops on Van Riebeeck avenue, that are selling counterfeit goods, such as Colgate toothpaste, glue and more. Officers proceeded to the shops, where occupants who failed to produce their identity documents were present, and discovered various counterfeit items.
The counterfeit goods were taken by the BIPPS Brand and Intellectual Property Protection Service, and a receipt was handed to the shop owner as the counterfeit items will be destroyed.
The suspects between the ages of nineteen (19) and twenty-five (25) years old were arrested and detained at the Edenvale Police Station. A case of selling of counterfeit goods and failing to comply with the illegal immigration act was registered. They will appear in the Edenvale Magistrate soon.
