Suspect who robbed pedestrian of cellular phone in the Cape Town CBD swiftly apprehended

Quick thinking and bravery from Law Enforcement! Yesterday afternoon, a pedestrian in the Cape Town CBD had their phone snatched by a thief on the run. Luckily, a Law Enforcement officer patrolling with Central Improvement District members witnessed the crime and gave chase.
The suspect pulled out a knife, but additional Law Enforcement officers responded swiftly and cornered the suspect, making an arrest. The 24-year-old male from Manenberg is now facing charges of robbery and possession of a dangerous weapon.
We’re proud of our Law Enforcement officers who go above and beyond to keep our city safe. As ordained peace officers, they have additional powers of arrest, which they use to support SAPS in their crime prevention mandate.
Building on the success of our Law Enforcement officers, we’ll soon be rolling out Metro Police officers with even greater powers across every ward in the city, further enhancing our safety initiatives and support for neighbourhood watches and private security companies. Let’s give our Law Enforcement officers the appreciation they deserve!
