Police arrested seven suspects aged between 19 and 42, in Witbank on 18 May 2025, for contravention of the Immigration Act during Operation Vala Umgodi as it continues to make an impact in the Mpumalanga Province.
The suspects were apprehended by the team as they conducted a stop-and-search in the N4 old Pretoria Road.
The Combat and Proactive team stopped a sprinter white in colour with Gauteng registration carrying passengers. It was during this time when the suspects were arrested for failing to produce valid documentation to be in South Africa.
The suspects were charged with the Contravention of Immigration Act, and they are expected to appear at the Witbank Magistrate’s Court today, 19 May 2025.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr.) Zeph Mkhwanazi has commended members for the exceptional work done through Operation Vala Umgodi.
