The SAPS multi -Disciplinary operation Shanela remains deliberate in reducing crime in all hot spots areas in the district. A total of 186 suspects were nabbed for various offenses by the detectives across the district while tracing the suspects on Wednesday evening, 14 May 2025 to the early hours of Thursday morning 15 May 2025, while Crime intelligence members arrested a suspect for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition, blank gun, and Air gun, 3 arrested for possession of drugs and another one arrested for dealing in liquor without a license.
Ekurhuleni District SAPS Senior Officers, Brigadier Albertina Vesi, Brigadier Ntombizini Thethe and Brigadier Raymond Buthelezi took the operations comprising Saps, Cpf, Gauteng Traffic, Gauteng Crime Prevention Wardens, Siyabangena Patrollers, Security Officers, Taxi task team, and other stakeholders on Thursday 15 May 2025 to Elsburg Policing Precinct which led to the apprehension of 7 illegal immigrants, 6 Suspects for possession of drugs, 5 x suspects for dealing in liquor without licence and 5 illegal liquor outlets closed.
In parallel to the operations in Elsburg, an Imbizo was conducted at Graceland, Elsburg, to engage with community members in order to address problematic issues related to crime and policing in the area. Commanders’ contact numbers were also shared with the community, for in case of emergency.
Ekurhuleni District Commissioner, Major General Anna Sithole, thanked the law enforcement agencies involved for the commitment they have displayed in ensuring high visibility in the area and also ensure that those who transgress the law are brought to book.
