The South African Police Service in Protea arrested a 39-year-old suspect for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, at approximately 18:45 on Wednesday, 22 October 2025.
The members of the Protea Trio Task Team and Crime Prevention Unit stopped a silver Mercedes-Benz with no number plates while conducting a stop and search operation in Protea Glen Ext 28. During the search police recovered:
– 4 x AK47 Rifles
– 329 live rounds of AK47 ammunition
– 21 live rounds of R5 rifle ammunition
– 10 x AK47 magazines
