Police have open a case of arson for investigation, after a church building gutted by fire

The members of Thohoyandou SAPS in Vhembe District, have opened a case of arson after a church building was gutted by fire on Wednesday, 10 September 2025 at Muledane at around 06:30.

The church pastor allegedly received information about his church being on fire. Upon his arrival at the scene, the church rooftop was already falling down.

An inquiry case docket was registered at the police station.

On Monday, 15 September 2025, the preliminary investigations led the police to revisit the crime scene, and the inquiry case docket was changed to arson.

The estimated property destroyed by fire is about R650 000.

The cause of the fire will be determined by the police report.
