Johannesburg District women in law enforcement lead a successful Operation Basadi

As part of Women’s Month activities, women from different stations across Johannesburg District, in collaboration with other law enforcement agencies that included Gauteng Traffic police, Johannesburg Metro police and Gauteng Traffic Wardens held a joint Operation Basadi in Johannesburg Central. The operation started with a parade led by female senior officers that included Brigadier Michelle Jones, Brigadier Lindiwe Magudulela, and Brigadier Mmakgomo Maake.

The aim of the operation was to enhance police visibility, conduct stop and searches, address compliance, and raise awareness on gender-based violence and all forms of criminality. During the operation, 20 undocumented persons were arrested. A vehicle checkpoint was held to ensure that vehicles are roadworthy and to detect criminal activities. About 270 people and 110 vehicles were searched. Traffic fines were also issued to those disobeying traffic rules. School search was also conducted at Fordsburg primary school to raise awareness on school safety, crime against women and children, drugs, and dangerous weapons.

The Johannesburg District Commissioner, Major General Nonhlanhla Kubheka commended the members for their teamwork and dedication in ensuring that the community of Johannesburg is and feel safe.
