Suspects face charges related to the Firearms Control Act

The fight against gang violence in Mitchell’s Plain policing precinct was rewarded on Monday, 26 May 2025, when members of the South African Police Service arrested suspects for the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

Members of the Anti-Gang Unit were conducting foot patrols in the Tafelsig area when they received a tip off from the public of firearms at a premises in Bainskloof Street and followed up the information. They searched the premises and seized a firearm with eight rounds of ammunition which was found in the house and subsequently arrested a 35-year-old man for the possession thereof.

Furthermore, the same members searched a premises in Goudini Close, Tafelsig and arrested a 38-year-old male when they found a firearm in the house. He was arrested for the illegal possession of a firearm.

The suspects made their respective court appearances before the Mitchell’s Plain Magistrates’ court, today.
