One man was killed and three others injured this afternoon when two bakkies collided head-on on the N4 Populer Creek, approximately 30km outside of Nelspruit in Mpumalanga.
ER24 paramedics, along with another service, arrived on the scene to find one bakkie in the middle of the road while the other had rolled some distance into the veld. Both vehicles had sustained a significant amount of damage in the collision.
Upon closer inspection, paramedics found the lifeless body of a man lying inside the bakkie which was in the middle of the road. Unfortunately, the man had already succumbed to his multiple injuries. Nothing could be done for him and he was declared dead.
Three other patients, a woman, and two men were found on the scene. The woman had been traveling in the bakkie found on the road while the two men had been traveling in the bakkie found in the field.
Assessments showed that all three patients had sustained only minor injuries. The patients were treated for their injuries and were thereafter transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment.
The exact cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
