TomTom makes new and expanded map available for Southern Africa

Johannesburg, 25 September 2009 – TomTom, the world’s leading provider of navigation solutions and digital maps, today announces the availability of a fresh and improved version of the map of Southern Africa. Customers will be able to conveniently purchase the new map on their device through TomTom HOME or via the map shop on the TomTom website on www.tomtom.com/maps.

The map of Southern Africa includes full coverage at street level of South Africa, Lesotho and Swaziland as well as major cities and major road network of Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Mozambique and Malawi.

Over 143.000 kilometres of roads in South Africa have been added to the new map, giving the Western- and Easter Cape, Lesotho and Swaziland full coverage. The map has been enriched significantly with over 62.000 new Points of Interests (POI’s) including all the FIFA World Cup 2010 stadiums in South Africa, adding to over 200.000 POI’s. The map now covers 87% of house numbers in South Africa

The updated map is compatible with all TomTom portable navigation devices and is available for 777,14 ZAR*.

New in the TomTom map offering is a map of South Africa only, available for 554,95 ZAR*. For TomTom users going on holiday outside Africa there is also good news: a fresh offering of all maps is available since August and a new exotic holiday destination has been added: Mauritius, available for 443,84 ZAR.

The fresh maps can be purchased as a download via the TomTom website http://www.tomtom.com/products/maps or via TomTom HOME – TomTom’s free software application that enables users to manage, download, store and transfer content from their computer onto their TomTom device.

Users that have purchased a TomTom device in the last month will be offered the new version of their installed map automatically and for free via Latest Map Guarantee when they connect their device to their computer via TomTom HOME.
